Terms & Conditions

These terms govern your use of this website and the basis on which Kings Maxim Law Chambers provides legal services. Please read them before using the site or instructing the firm.

01 The firm

This website is published by Kings Maxim Law Chambers, a law firm established in the United Arab Emirates with offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, holding Legal Practice Licence No. 16880/2021. References in these terms to "the firm", "we", "us" and "our" are to Kings Maxim Law Chambers.

All legal services described on this site are provided by Kings Maxim Law Chambers and by no other person or entity.

02 Information on this site is not legal advice

The content of this website is general in nature and is provided for information only. It is current as at the date of publication and may not reflect subsequent changes in the law or in practice.

Nothing on this site constitutes legal advice, and no part of it should be relied upon as a substitute for advice on your own facts. Please obtain formal advice before taking or refraining from any action.

03 No lawyer-client relationship

Visiting this website, reading its content, or sending us an unsolicited message does not create a lawyer-client relationship between you and the firm.

A relationship arises only once we have completed our client acceptance procedures and both parties have signed a written engagement letter setting out the scope of the work, the fee basis and the terms of the retainer.

Until an engagement letter is in place, information you send us is not treated as confidential and does not give rise to any duty on our part.

04 Engagement and scope

Where we accept an engagement, our advice is given solely for the client named in the engagement letter, for the purpose stated in it, and on the facts and instructions available to us at the time. It may not be relied upon by any other person, or for any other purpose, without our prior written consent.

Unless expressly agreed, our advice covers the laws of the jurisdictions in which the relevant members of the firm are qualified. Where a matter requires advice on the laws of another jurisdiction, we will say so and, if instructed, coordinate with appropriate counsel there.

We are under no obligation to update advice once given to reflect later changes in law, regulation or circumstance, unless we are separately instructed to do so.

05 Client acceptance and conflicts

Before accepting any engagement we carry out client identification, verification and conflict checks as required by applicable law and by our internal policies. We may decline an engagement without giving reasons.

If a conflict of interest arises during a matter, we will address it in accordance with the professional rules that apply to us, which may require us to cease acting for one or more parties.

06 Confidentiality

We treat client information as confidential and disclose it only where the client authorises disclosure, or where disclosure is required by law, regulation or the rules of a competent authority or professional body.

Email and other electronic communication carry inherent risks of interception, delay and corruption. Where a matter calls for it, we will agree secure alternatives with the client.

07 Fees and billing

Fees, disbursements and the basis of charging are set out in the engagement letter for each matter. Where a fee estimate is given, it is an estimate rather than a fixed quotation unless expressly described as fixed.

Invoices are payable in accordance with the terms stated on them. We may suspend work on a matter where invoices remain outstanding, having first given the client notice.

08 Intellectual property

The content of this website, including text, layout, graphics and the firm's name and marks, belongs to the firm or to its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property law.

You may view and print pages for your own reference. Reproducing, distributing or adapting any part of this site for other purposes requires our prior written consent.

09 External links

This site may contain links to third party websites. Those links are provided for convenience. We do not control the linked sites, do not endorse their content, and accept no responsibility for them.

10 Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the content of this website.

Our liability in relation to any engagement is governed by the engagement letter for that matter, which may include an agreed cap. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

11 Data protection

We process personal data in accordance with applicable data protection law in the United Arab Emirates, including Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data, and, where relevant to a matter, the DIFC Data Protection Law.

Personal data provided to us is used to respond to enquiries, to carry out client acceptance checks, to deliver legal services, and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations. It is retained for as long as those purposes and our record keeping obligations require.

12 Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from your use of this website, are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates as applied in the Emirate of Dubai.

The courts of Dubai have exclusive jurisdiction, save where an engagement letter provides for a different forum, in which case that provision prevails for the matter it governs.

13 Changes to these terms

We may amend these terms at any time by publishing an updated version on this page. The version in force is the one published here at the time you use the site.
